How we got these

Product read from the listing title.

We decoded each lot's listing title to the product being broken. Only lots whose title named exactly one product line count here: 6,881 of 10,734 lots. Mixers that combine several products (1,468 lots) and titles with no product name (2,385 lots) are left out. Titles that mention Sapphire or Jumbo boxes get their own row, because those configurations price very differently from the base hobby box.

A product appears only if we saw at least 30 lots of it from at least two different sellers, so no single breaker's pricing is presented as a product benchmark. That rule left out Bowman Basketball, Topps Inception Basketball, Topps Chrome Basketball (Sapphire in the break), Prizm Basketball, Topps Chrome Black Basketball, Topps Chrome Update Basketball (Jumbo boxes).

Topps Pristine sat in the middle at $115 a spot, with a wide range ($20 to $243) that reflects both small player spots and larger case breaks. Bowman with Jumbo boxes was the most widely broken product in this table, seen from 7 sellers, at $53 a spot.

Read with care

Spot price depends on how the product is split.

A product's median spot price mixes breaks that split the same boxes very differently. A case divided into 30 team spots and the same case divided into 100 player spots will show very different spot prices for identical product. That is why the table shows spots and gross per break next to each median. Where we saw only a few breaks of a product, treat its numbers as a rough guide; the Breaks column tells you how many each row rests on.

These figures reflect what sold in late September 2026. Prices for a release move with its age, hits pulled and the season, so use them as a starting point and track your own.

What to do with this

Work backward from your cost and your room.

Start with what the product cost you all in, decide how many spots to run, and check the implied spot price against the medians above. If your break-even spot price is well above what similar product sold for, either split the product into fewer, pricier spots or reconsider the product for your room. Our spot pricing guide covers how prices spread inside a break, and how many spots to run covers list sizes.

Spot price is only part of the story; 75.1% of all sales in our data came from the top tenth of buyers. Which product your best buyers chase is often a better guide than the average.

Common questions

Quick answers

What do Topps Chrome Update basketball break spots sell for?
In breaks that included Sapphire boxes, the median spot sold for $235 (2,073 lots, 4 sellers). In Topps Chrome Update breaks with no Sapphire or Jumbo boxes in the title, the median was $15 (682 lots).
What do Bowman basketball break spots sell for?
Bowman breaks that used Jumbo boxes sold spots at a median $53 across 995 lots from 7 sellers.
Why is the same product so different from break to break?
Mostly because of how many spots the product is split into. The same case split into 30 spots and into 100 spots produces very different spot prices. Compare gross per break, not just spot price.

Where these numbers come from

Every figure on this page comes from 59 basketball breaks from 17 Whatnot sellers that Whaler tracked from September 9 to September 29, 2026 (7 capture days): 10,734 sold lots, 1,530 buyers and $1,824,913 in captured sales. Each lot is one sold spot or item with its final price and buyer. These are the breaks we tracked, not the whole Whatnot market, so treat them as benchmarks from real basketball shows rather than platform-wide averages.

Captured totals are lower bounds: a capture can start after a show begins or stop before it ends. Medians are used throughout because a handful of very large shows and buyers pull averages up. Sample sizes are stated next to each number.

Know which products your buyers pay up for.

Whaler ties every lot in your Whatnot show to what was broken and who bought it, so you see which releases your room actually wants.
